Truth Be Told - Remember Your Reward

Remember Your Rewards

I just discovered our new favorite grocery store.

We’ve been leaning more into organic, whole, and healthy foods—so finding this place felt like stumbling onto buried treasure. It had everything we wanted… except automation.

At our old stores, I’d punch in my number or scan the app—easy. This new one? Not so much. It was all manual, and I had to think.

The first checkout caught me off guard:

“Would you like a bag?”

Of course.

Then I saw the sign: Bags cost $0.10.

It wasn’t the dime—it was the idea. I had reusable bags at home, but rarely remembered to bring them. One week I forgot. The next, I brought two and needed three. Then I remembered the bags but forgot the rewards app. Then I remembered the app and forgot the bags again.

Eventually, I thought, “This is the perfect place to spend any cash I’ve got.” But of course—one time I remembered the bags and cash but forgot the rewards. The next time, I remembered the bags and rewards but forgot the cash. I swiped my card and realized the cash was in my pocket all along.

That’s when I invented my new system: BRC – Bags, Rewards, Cash.

Every time I pull into the lot, I whisper to myself: “BRC. Got the bags? Rewards app? Cash?”

And again at checkout:  “BRC.”

It isn’t that I have problems with my memory. I’ve just got a lot on my mind. And a lot of life in my memory bank.

I once read that memory doesn’t necessarily get worse with age—it just gets crowded. I’m choosing to believe that.

So I’m not losing it, but I may need a pair-of-dimes shift—instead of wasting valuable time trying to save twenty cents on plastic bags.

Besides, Scripture says: “We have the mind of Christ,” and “The Holy Spirit will remind you of everything I’ve said.” 1 Cor 2:26, John 14:26

God puts deep value on remembering.

The psalmist wrote:

  • “Forget not all His benefits…” —Psalm 103:2

  • I will remember the deeds of the Lord…”—Psalm 77:11

Israel marked moments with stones, stacked altars, and sang songs—all so they wouldn’t forget. We need that too.

In the swirl of modern life, we need a kind of spiritual BRC:

  • Believe His faithfulness

  • Receive His promises

  • Claim His Word

Situations may fail us. People may let us down. Circumstances may collapse.

But God never will.

Remember Your Rewards:

  • God’s mercy is unending. “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” — Lamentations 3:22–23

  • His faithfulness fulfills his promises. “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.”— Hebrews 10:23

  • Receiving begins with remembering.“Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits. He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases.”  — Psalm 103:2-3

  • What He’s done before, He will do again.“I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.” — Psalm 77:11

  • Every word from God carries the power to fulfill it.  “For no word from God will ever fail.” — Luke 1:37

“so shall my word be that goes forth from my mouth…it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” —Isaiah 55:11

  • The Spirit helps us remember. “But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit… will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” — John 14:26

  • His promises don’t expire—they’re fulfilled in Christ. “For all the promises of God in Him are ‘Yes,’ and in Him ‘Amen,’ to the glory of God through us.” — 2 Corinthians 1:20

Remember: God has never failed us. He will never leave us. His Word is true. And in all things—He is faithful.

Let’s BRC—Believe His faithfulness, Receive His promises, and Claim His Word.
